Welcome to Better Than a Baby!

If you spend five minutes exploring the childfree community online, you’ll see a lot of anger and stereotyping–both from childfree people, and from those with kids. There’s a lot of unnecessary animosity between these groups.

I’m a 38-year-old woman who’s childfree and single. My goal with this blog is to defuse some of the tension between those of us with kids, and those without.

Choosing to have children can be a wonderful choice (perpetuating the human race!). So can choosing not to have kids (population control! saving money! greater independence! OK, I’m getting ahead of myself).

Thanks for reading, and I’d love to hear your thoughts about childfree living in the comments section.

  1. YAY! So happy to see you blogging again, Anya, and a perfectly valid topic. Ken and I chose to have kids, but we see plenty of parents who shouldn’t have had kids. I think it’s a fine choice if someone doesn’t want to have kids. I feel badly that some folks give them a hard time (like parents wanting grandkids). It’s not for everyone and honestly, we are jealous of those walking that path at times. What would we do if we had all that free time back? 😉

    • Thanks for reading, Amanda! I’m so glad to hear your thoughts. I feel like there are so many tradeoffs either way, both with having kids and with deciding not to. So I’m hoping to explore that here and get some discussion going.

I’m curious to hear more about “parents who shouldn’t have had kids.” Do you mean people who don’t seem like they’re able to give time and attention to their children?
